a small place
2025
a small place is a developing artist residency in Trinidad and Tobago. The mark brings together the idea of crossroads paired with a subtle reference to Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival culture.
The Black Mas Indian is a classic character within Carnival, and also captures many aspect of a small place: it speaks to a wider diaspora of Blackness beyond the island, and has deep connections to other similar characters in festive traditions across the Americas. A key motif for Black Mas Indian costumes are horns, so we captured those visually through the arrow forms that create the mark.
