Lazer Eyes
2016—2019
Lazer Eyes is an Electronic Dance Opera, combining the narrative elements of musical theatre with the sounds, attitude and humor of the digital era. It encompasses a web-comic, a live stage production, a 17 track album, and merchandise. Telling the story of a coal miner who strikes a space rock and gets lazers for eyes, the project operates in a highly satirical space, allowing for a tremendous amount of play in the branding and the other visual aspects. The visual language for Lazer Eyes is rooted in nostalgia for animated adventure video games of the early 2000s, the X-Men side-scrolling arcade game, and everything neon, with key visual tropes rooted in color-play between pink, blue, and black.
As Art Director of the show, I worked closely with a motion graphics designer, illustrator, lighting designer, and choreographer to seamlessly tie these many disciplines together into one visual extravaganza.
