Imaginary School
2013—
As the Imaginary School, we imagine a world where life is valued over the accumulation of profits; where creativity is never stifled by a lack of resources; where the internet aids our path, rather than endangering it. We imagine that this world already exists, that it is here and has always been right here, and that its future can only emerge when we imagine it together.
The Imaginary School currently exists on three platforms: Are.na, where we’re building a library of learning resources; Discord, where we discuss those resources; and our website, where we collect our thoughts and present new ideas.
The group produces a variety of projects in addition to the maintenance of resources and our Discord. We hosted a speaking event and subsequent crowd-funding campaign honoring Toni Morrison, as well as hosting curated watch parties with Dom McClennon on Twitch.
